In the first Associated press state football poll released Monday, the Ridgewood Generals ranked highest among all area schools.

Ridgewood (3-0, first in IVC South) is No. 6 among all Division V Ohio schools, the only area team to crack the state top ten.

Ranked four spots below the Generals are the Malvern Hornets (No.10), along with No. 15 Garaway. The latter of the two will play Ridgewood on Friday, Oct. 2, the last of the mandated six-game regular season slate.

New Philadelphia was ranked No. 16 and will take on the sixth-ranked team, the Steubenville Big Red, at Woody Hayes Quaker Stadium on Thursday, the home opener for the Quakers.

Rounding out the top ten of the Div. V poll was top-seeded Kirtland, Wheelersburg (No. 2), Ironton (No. 3), Canfield South Range (No. 4), Liberty-Benton (No. 5), Bellaire (No. 7), St. Bernard Roger Bacon (No. 8), Baltimore Liberty Union (No. 9), and Manchester (No. 10).
