Hiland's Hummel wins individual state crown; Hawks, TV girls finish 2nd; Garaway 3rd

COLUMBUS, Ohio - For the second consecutive year, Hiland is bringing home a state golf championship.

This time, however, it's from an individual: junior Brookston Hummel.

Hummel had scores of 72-74 for a two-day total of 146 (+2) to win the Division III individual title at NorthStar Golf Club in Columbus, while the Hawks (313-313-626 team total) finished as runners-up to Canton Central Catholic (300-315-615), falling Hiland short of repeating as Division III state champs.

Hummel won by a single stroke over Pettisville's Max Leppelmeier (74-73-147) and Columbus Wellington's Carsten Judge (75-72-147, +3 each), while Hummel's teammate Carter Mishler (75-74-149, +5) finished fourth for the weekend among individuals.

Along with Hummel and Mishler, Hiland received scores from Kenny Weaver (80-79-159, +15) and Nathan Kline (84-88-172, +28), while Garret Shoup (87-89-176, +32) also participated in the tournament. With their top finishes.

Nathan Glaser of Tuscarawas Valley also played as an individual and finished 30th with a score of 168 (85-83, +24)

Tusky Valley girls finish 2nd at Gray Course

While Hiland finished second in the boys' tournament, the Tuscarawas Valley Trojans finished as runners-up in the Division II girls state tournament, shooting a weekend score of 683 (355-328) at the Gray Course of The Ohio State University Golf Club.

Susan Thompson paced the Trojans (88-77-165, +21), with Sydney Clements (89-79-168, +24), Keegan Selinsky (85-85-178, +34), and Kylie Rohr (93-87-180, +36) following. Leah Wright (100-106-206, +62) also golfed for the Trojans.

Ridgewood's Lexi Zimmer tied for 23rd (89-89-178, +34) as an individual.

Lima Central Catholic was the winner of the tournament with a 630 (310-320).

Garaway finished 3rd in Division II boys tourney

In the boys' Division II tournament at Ohio State's Scarlet Course, the Garaway Pirates finished in third place with a score of 639 (331-308).

The Pirates finished behind champion Gahanna Columbus Academy (300-315-615) and Kettering Archbishop Alter (315-314-629)

Zehnder Gibson fired a second-round best 70 to go with a day one 79 (149, +5) while Michael Blauch (85-76-161, +17), Rendall Weaver (85-79-164, +20), and Charles Beachy (85-83-168, +24) added to the Pirates' score. Emmet Royer (82-92-174, +30) also golfed for Garaway.

Sandy Valley's Connor Ritter shot a 75-78-153 (+9) total for a 10th-place individual finish.
