Dover, New Phila girls fall short in district tourney

ZANESVILLE, Ohio - The Dover Tornadoes and two New Philadelphia golfers fell short of qualifying for the girls State Tournament in Monday's Division I District Tournament at EagleSticks Golf Club.

Dover finished fifth out of five eligible teams with a team score of 411. Sophomores Riley Schie (85, +15) and Ava Adams (89, +19) paced the Tornadoes, with junior Olivia Patton (114, +44) and freshman Kiley McIntosh (123, +53) rounding out the team's qualifying scores.

Senior Skylar McPeek also shot a 129 (+59) for Dover.

New Philadelphia's two qualifiers, junior Sydney Devore and sophomore Emma Menapace, both broke eighty in their respective rounds, with Devore shooting a 75 (+5) and Menapace a 78 (+7). However, both were outdone by Miami Trace junior Libby Aleshire, who was the lone individual advancing to state with a 72 (+2).

Devore finished second among individuals, and Menapace fourth, along with third-place finisher Saylor Wharff (77, +7) from Marietta.

The Marietta Tigers (360) were the lone team that advanced to next week's State Tournament at Ohio State University's Gray Course, besting runners-up John Glenn (364), followed by Miami Trace (373) Logan (378), and Dover, respectively.

Other scores from the tournament included Chillicothe sophomores Isabella Fischer (88, +18) and Julie Lemaster (92, +22), and Warren sophomore Hollis Sturgill (80, +10).
