Ohio State vs Michigan canceled

COLUMBUS, Ohio - For the first time since 1917, Ohio State and Michigan's classic rivalry game will not be played.

The Wolverines announced Tuesday afternoon that their upcoming matchup against the Buckeyes would be canceled due to "an increasing number of positive COVID-19 cases and student-athletes in quarantine over the past week."

Michigan says it will continue daily testing with hopes of getting back on the practice field when cleared by medical professionals.

As for Ohio State, the loss of the game would put the Buckeyes under the six-game minimum required by the Big Ten to be eligible for the Big Ten Championship Game, which is set to be played Saturday, Dec. 19 in Indianapolis.

The Buckeyes (5-0) are ranked fourth in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, behind Alabama, Notre Dame, and Clemson. With Texas A&M (fifth) and Florida (sixth) creeping behind - and the Gators being the current leader in the SEC East - Ohio State may have to look for another opponent in the style of BYU's shift a game in Coastal Carolina last week.
