New Philadelphia senior Justin Rimer signs to Ashland; Logan Ortt unsigned on first day

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio - On National Signing Day, Ashland University received a signing from New Philadelphia senior Justin Rimer.

Justin Rimer

Rimer, a 6-foot-3, 270-pound lineman, officially signed to the school on Wednesday morning after committing to the Eagles last November.

Rimer, who was one of six Quakers named to the Times-Reporter's 2020 Tusc County High School Sports Awards, also received scholarship offers from Baldwin Wallace, Lawrence Tech, Mount Union, North Park, and Walsh. He also made visits this past year to Clarion, Notre Dame College, and Wheeling.

Another one of those six New Philadelphia standouts was fellow senior Logan Ortt, who announced on Twitter later Wednesday that he would not sign with a school that day.

Ortt recently played in the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl in Dallas as a punter, despite starring at running back and linebacker for most of the 2020 high school season. He has received Divison I offers from schools like the University of Akron (preferred walk-on), as well as Robert Morris. Ortt has also received offers from Clarion, Dayton, Fairmont State, Lenoir-Rhyne, Ohio Dominican, and Valparaiso.
