NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio - Completion of the Southside Community Park project will be slated for the spring of 2021, according to New Philadelphia mayor Joel Day during Monday night's city council meeting.

The 53-acre park off of Oldtown Valley Road will have a fenced dog park, trails, and a butterfly garden. Future phases of park development are to include a covered shelter, concession stands, and baseball and football fields.

Work for the park, however, has currently not been scheduled.

Other construction projects slated for the town include the following: Schoenbrunn Meadows cemetery, a nine-acre property on Deleware Drive SE (the first cemetery built in the town since the 1960s); relocation of the fence line around Gradall to make way for construction of the city's leg of the Ohio & Erie Canal Towpath Trail along the Tuscarawas River; movement of the water and sewer lines under the former Howden Buffalo property onto Mill Avenue NW to prepare for the property's redevelopment; construction of sidewalks on the east side of Lakeview Avenue NW and a pedestrian crosswalk on Wabash Avenue NW.
