New Philadelphia, Ohio (WJER) - The Ohio Department of Transportation’s 2019 construction season is here. ODOT District 11’s construction schedule this season has 16 projects totaling $27 million in Tuscarawas County.
District spokeswoman Lauren Borell says that includes wrapping up work that started last year on state Route 39 at the I-77 and US 250 interchange that included the addition of new turn lanes. She says that project should be done by next month.
“We have new signals coming in here soon, so that’ll help also with those upgraded signals,” she says. “Then, we’re expanding the park-and-ride that’s located there at state Route 39. That’s a pretty popular place for folks to use, so we’re adding some extra parking spaces there as well.”
Borell says another carryover is the $5.3 million project for the I-77 bridges at Newcomerstown.
“That’s a bridge rehabilitation project which is located over state Route 258 and the Tuscarawas River. We’ve got traffic maintained there right now in each direction, one lane, and the completion date for that is July 31st of 2019,” she says.
Other work involves intersection improvements at Bluebell drive and state route 39 in New Philadelphia. and there’s a $750,000 sidewalk project in Bolivar.
