NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio - Tim Fortney has been hired as New Philadelphia High School's next athletic director.

The 53-year-old Fortney, who currently operates as the athletic director at Coshocton High School, was hired during the New Philadelphia Board of Education meeting on Monday night.

Fortney is a 1986 graduate of Coshocton and had been with the school in the position for the previous seven years. Over two decades at the school, Fortney had worked as a math teacher, as well as a football, track, and baseball coach.

Fortney's will assume the position that was at one time held by his wife Kelly's father, former New Philadelphia athletic director Fred Memmelaar, who passed away last year.

Fortney's three-year contract will take effect on Aug, 1. He takes over the position from Matt Dennison, who is leaving for Canton South at the end of the school year.
