DOVER - It was announced yesterday that the Dover Tornadoes' previously scheduled game against Linsly High School had been cancelled due to elevated COVID-19 numbers in the Wheeling, West Virginia school's area.

While the game - which was set to play this Friday - was not called for COVID-19 cases spiking within the Dover or the Tuscarawas County area, Ohio County in West Virginia - where Linsly is located - was elevated to "gold" status on Saturday.

While this status does allow students to still attend in-person classes (which the district plans to resume this week), it does restrict athletics to only against local schools - therefore not permitting Linsly to make the 90-minute trip to Dover.

Said Dover athletic director Tim McCrate on Sunday, "Right now we don't have anything, but we're not giving up hope yet. We're out there beating the bushes trying to find someone."

alas, Dover and Linsly will have to find new opponents for Friday (and in the latter's case, time will tell if they'll be playing).
