Dover grad Hunter Armstrong advances to Olympic men's 100m backstroke semifinals

DOVER, Ohio - Former Dover High School graduate Hunter Armstrong advanced to the semifinals of the men's 100m backstroke event at the Tokyo Olympics Sunday.

Armstrong finished tied for 15th after the men's 100m backstroke preliminaries at the Tokyo Aquatics Center, as the top sixteen times advance to the next round.

Armstrong finished fifth in his heat with a 53.77, tying with Greece's Christou Apostolos for the 15th spot.

Defending Olympic champion, Armstrong's U.S. teammate Ryan Murphy, finished tied for second in his heat with a 53.22. Kliment Kolesnikov of the Russian Olympic Committee won the heat in 52.15.

The semifinals for the event can be seen at approximately 10:30 p.m. on NBC.
