Former Newcomerstown schools educator Adam Lefler has been found guilty of sexual battery and contributing to the delinquency of a minor after changing his plea to no contest ahead of his trial in Tuscarawas County Common Pleas Court.

NEW PHILADELPHIA (Tusco TV) - The former Newcomerstown high school teacher charged with sexual battery for an incident involving one of his students will have to register for life as a Tier III sex offender.

33-year-old Adam Lefler of Midvale was found guilty on the battery charge and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor Monday after changing his plea to no contest ahead of his jury trial. Assistant Prosecutor Scott Deedrick says the state will recommend a 12-month prison term when Lefler is sentenced sometime after the first of the year, plus another year of post-release placement at a community-based correctional facility and two years of probation.

Lefler was arrested in May after Uhrichsville Police found him parked outside a local shopping center with the 16-year-old student. His conviction makes him ineligible for an Ohio teaching license and disqualifies him from future school employment.
