TUSCARAWAS COUNTY (WJER) - The United Way of Tuscarawas County Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program will reach five times as many people in its second year. President Robin Waltz says last year the VITA program helped 100 Tuscarawas County residents fill out their taxes for free. She says they plan to help 500 people this year.
“We will not be able to accept walk-ins. We just have to make sure that we have everything we need, so everybody needs to call in and make an appointment.”
The VITA program is for people with individual income of $65,000 or less, or joint income of $95,000 or less. Waltz says IRS-certified volunteers provide help with filling out income taxes at Ohio Means Jobs and the Dover-Phila Credit Union on Fillmore.
“They are allowing us to use their facilities free-of-charge, and their computers free-of-charge, so we would not be able to do that program if we did not have that infrastructure. We’re really blessed to have those organizations help us out.”
The first clinic is planned for February 6th. To schedule an appointment, call 330-994-VITA.
