Ohio State Highway Patrol to target safety belt use

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol will be partnering with members of the 6-State Trooper Project to enforce and raise awareness of safety belt use.

The 6-State Trooper Project is a multi-state law enforcement partnership that aims to provide combined and coordinated law enforcement and security services in the areas of highway and criminal patrol, as well as information sharing.

According to a press release from the O.S.H.P., the project will run from 12 a.m. on November 9 to 11:59 p.m. on Nov. 16. Along with Ohio, the high-visibility campaign includes the state police forces of Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia.

Last year, 58 percent of those killed in traffic fatalities were not wearing an available safety belt, according to the O.S.H.P.'s press release.
