Dover Public Library seeking sponsors for Plastic Caps to Bench Project

DOVER, Ohio - The Dover Public Library is trying to turn plastic bottle caps into a bench.

The library will continue to accept donations of clean plastic bottle caps and lids for its ABC Partnership Plastic Bench Promise until December 10. The two organizations are working to accumulate 200 pounds of donated caps and lids, which will then be extruded into a bench to be placed on library grounds.

The D.P.L. is looking for financial sponsors to cover the estimated $600 cost of plastic transportation and bench extrusion. Checks can be made out to the Dover Public Library, and more information can be found at www.doverlibrary.org.

"The goal of the project is to teach sustainability," says Jim Gill, library director. "We have been amazed by the interest in the project from the community. Each and every day we have people of all ages bringing in their caps and lids. As 2021 approaches, the library will be presenting programs for kids and teens that talk about recycling and the importance of being good stewards of what we have been given. It is our duty to raise up the next generation in our community and to pay it forward."
