NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) - The man positioned to next join the four-person Tuscarawas County Board Of Elections says he’s thankful for this opportunity.

The Tuscarawas County Democratic Party Executive Committee has selected former Sugarcreek mayor Jeremiah Johnson to fill their board vacancy. Johnson says he saw this as a way of giving back.

“It’s a unique position where I can stay involved and not run for office but be involved with candidates all the way throughout the county and what-not and help the process move smoothly over there at the board of elections office,” he saysl.

Johnson says he felt qualified, having run in five elections and well as serving in different roles during other elections at the board office.

“I’ve also worked the board of elections on election day, prior to election day setting up machines, after election day tearing down machines. Then, I got to work last election at the courthouse, so I got to feel the full process. I’ve had the opportunity to meet the people that work there and have a good working relationship with them,” he says.

Johnson is replacing Gail Garbrandt on the board. She stepped down to become board director after Allan Sayre's resignation.
