New Philadelphia, Ohio - The Tuscarawas County Board of Elections has finalized the ballot for the upcoming election, and Uhrichsville’s Ward 3 councilman didn’t make the cut.

Director Allen Sayre says the board met Tuesday to certify the candidate petitions and ballot issues for the May 7th primary. He says Democrat Terry Warner has been disqualified from the election.

"Mr. Warner did not have enough valid signatures to be certified, therefore he will not be on the ballot in the primary and cannot be on the ballot in the general," he says.

Warner says he was surprised and disappointed to learn that he had been disqualified from the election.

"Well, it kind of upset me because I did everything of what they told me to do," he says. "Everyone I asked, I asked them if they were a registered Democrat, and they said yes they were before I even had them sign my petition."

If no one runs for the seat, council will have the ability to appoint someone to fill the vacancy.  Warner says he’s still holding onto hope that he’ll be able to continue representing his ward.

"I enjoy the position of Ward 3 and councilman for the city of Uhrichsville, but I will remain in there as long as I can," he says.

Sayre says there were also two local options for liquor licenses that didn’t make it onto the ballot. One was for the Casella Winery on Roxford Church Road near Dennison and the other for the Black Gold Golf Club on Winklepleck Road in Sugarcreek.
