UHRICHSVILLE (Tusco TV) - City officials are taking advantage of an opportunity to save residents some money on their natural gas bills.

City council on Thursday approved a two-year natural gas aggregation agreement with Constellation Energy starting October 1st. Trebel Energy Consultants representative Joe Garrett says the agreement will lock customers in at a rate of just under three cents per thousand cubic feet before natural gas prices start going back up.

“Constellation Energy came back with a price that made it worth me saying I need to come and talk to council because we think it’s a good price and it’s something we should put back out to the residents to be able to participate because it will save them money,” he says.

Mayor Rick Dorland says customers will be automatically enrolled unless they opt out, but he says they can leave the program at any time, or re-join at a later date, with no penalties.

“It’s a win-win situation. You’re getting the best rate and then if you don’t like or you feel as though the government is forcing something down your throat and you don’t like it, you can opt out, and then you can opt right back in,” he says.

Dorland says residents will be getting letters in the next couple of week with information about the program and how to opt out.
