Dover, Ohio - The Tuscarawas County YMCA announces that five local students have received scholarships totaling $10,000 from the Thomas J. Patton/YMCA Scholarship Fund. The fund was established in 1992 by Robert (Fizz) Miller to honor Tom Patton for his 40 years of service to the people of Tuscarawas County through his work with the YMCA.

Lane Moore is a first-year recipient of the Patton Scholarship. He is the son of Doug Moore and Natalia Layman and is a 2018 graduate of Dover High School. He will be attending Ohio University majoring in Psychology. Lane has been active on the Dover swim team and with his church mission trips, and has been a volunteer coach with the YMCA swim camp.

Kailey Russell is a first-year recipient of the Patton Scholarship. She is the daughter of Matt and Nadine Russell and is a 2018 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. She will be attending Kent State University-Tuscarawas majoring in Early Childhood Education. Kailey has been an active YMCA member and volunteer for many years through the YMCA Leaders Club.

Drew Sexton is a first-year recipient of the Patton Scholarship. He is the son of Shane and Beth Sexton and is a 2018 graduate of Dover High School.  He will be attending the University of Cincinnati majoring in Accounting.  Drew has been an active YMCA member for many years.

Tyler Nathan was awarded a second-year scholarship from the Patton Scholarship. He is the son of Mark and Kim Nathan and a 2017 graduate of Dover High School.  Tyler attends The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina and is majoring in Mechanical Engineering.

Taylor Young was awarded a second-year scholarship from the Patton Scholarship. She is the daughter of Chad and Shelly Young and a 2017 graduate of New Philadelphia High School.  Taylor attends Walsh University in North Canton and is majoring in Nursing.

Recipients of the Tom Patton/YMCA scholarship are recognized for their outstanding contributions to the Tuscarawas County YMCA through volunteer and staff leadership and service as well as their academic achievement and community involvement.  Since its inception in 1990, the Patton/YMCA Scholarship Fund has provided 113 Scholarships totaling $175,400 to 72 local youth involved with the YMCA as staff and volunteer leaders.
