Tuscarawas County, Ohio (WJER) - Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s officials say there are some differences between the state and local numbers for concealed-carry permits issued last year.

Statewide, CCW renewals increased a record 83 percent for the year, while new licenses fell by 10 percent to their lowest level since 2014. In Tuscarawas County, new CCW licenses outnumbered renewals, with more than 2,200 new licenses issued versus 934 renewals.

Also in Tuscarawas County, 25 license holders had their permits suspended in 2018 for things like DUI convictions and protection orders. For the state, there were more than 1,700 suspensions. The state auditor says that number is tiny in comparison to the total number of active licenses.
