NEW PHILADELPHIA (Tusco TV) - The Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a local woman died at the county jail.

Sheriff Orvis Campbell issued a statement Thursday night saying that 21-year-old Megan Larrick had been found dead in her cell earlier that evening when a corrections officer attempted to wake her up for dinner.

Campbell said the investigation so far has revealed that Larrick was arrested in Cambridge Wednesday on a warrant out of New Philadelphia Municipal Court. She was held at the Guernsey County Jail until around 11:15 pm when she was picked up by the New Philadelphia Police. She was reportedly alert and talkative during transport and when she was booked in at the local jail shortly after midnight. She is also reported to have slept for most of the morning but was seen moving in the afternoon.

Campbell says the county coroner has ordered a full autopsy and toxicology screen to determine what caused the woman's death.

Larrick had previously lived in New Philadelphia but had been staying in Cambridge.
