New Philadelphia, Ohio (WJER) - The local Salvation Army office is going with a new approach to put its Red Kettle Campaign over the top this year.

Lt. Andrew Allen says they are having something called a $20 challenge. Any donations of $20  or more that come in Thursday will be matched by the divisional headquarters in Cleveland.

“That is part of our Red Kettle Campaign. It is something that we’re doing this year to just make a final push in getting us to our goal,” he says.

Allen says the Cleveland headquarters will match the donations up to $10,000 total.

“I always aim for the stars, but I’m hoping that can really bring us very, very, very close to our goal if not allowing us to meet our goal on that day,” he says.

Allen says the donations can be made at any of their seven red kettle locations in the county or at the Salvation Army headquarters on Emmet Avenue in New Philadelphia.
