New Philadelphia, Ohio - Police say a man who broke into and may have been squatting in a vacant trailer in the Shel-Mar Estates mobile home park remains at large but is not believed to be a danger to the public.

Sgt. Paul Rossi says the man fled from a trailer on Seagull Lane SE Monday morning after being discovered by the park security guard, who had been in the area on routine patrol.

Multiple units responded to the scene and searched the mobile home park and surrounding area at length but were unable to locate the suspect.

Sgt. Rossi says the suspect is believed to have had gained entry through a rear door and appeared to have been gathering up items that had been left in the trailer when he was stopped by security.

A maintenance crew responded to the former residence and noted minor damage to the door but reported that everything else appeared to be intact.

Sgt. Rossi says it is unclear how long the man. had been staying in the trailer.

“I’m not sure how long he was squatting in there or if he was squatting in there. It looks like he broke in and tried to steal anything that was left of any value,” he says.

The suspect is a white male who was last seen Monday on Dolphin Lane wearing a black ball hat, shorts, and a black sleeveless shirt with green writing on the back.
