Scio, Ohio - Troopers say a Canton woman was killed and a New Philadelphia woman was seriously injured in a traffic crash that closed down state Route 250 for several hours Saturday morning. 

Lt. J.R. Fetty of the Steubenville Post says the crash occurred in Monroe Township at approximately 5:24 a.m. when a westbound Honda being driven by 44-year-old Kimberly K. Kirkpatrick of Canton went left of center a struck an SUV traveling in the opposite direction.

Kirkpatrick was pronounced dead at the scene, and the 70-year-old New Philadelphia woman driving the SUV was transported to Aultman Hospital in Canton with serious injuries. The three passengers of the SUV were transported to Mercy Medical Center in Canton. 

Assisting at the scene were the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office and the Uhrichsville, Scio, Bowerstown and Tappan fire departments. The Ohio Department of Transportation assisted with traffic control.

The crash remains under investigation. Troopers say both drivers and all of the passengers were wearing seatbelts.
