NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) - The Ohio Department Of Transportation is letting drivers know now that they won’t be able to use state route 416 south of New Philadelphia part of this month.

District 11 spokeswoman Lauren Borell says starting next Monday (June 10th), 416 will be closed two weeks between the New Philadelphia corporation limit and state Route 259 for a slide repair project about three-quarters of a mile south of the city.

“They’re repairing the embankment right there along state Route 416 at the location that they’re going to be at, so they’ll be excavating the sides there and then they will come back in and do pavement repairs,” she says.

Borell says the detour will use US 250 and state Route 259 to get them around the area of 416 that’s being closed.

“It’s not too bad of a detour. It will add some minutes onto some people’s commute but we just remind people to plan ahead for the delays with your travel in this and to drive carefully,” she says.

Borell says this is a $336,000 project to repair a slip that happened in the summer of 2016.
