New Philadelphia, Ohio - New Philadelphia police say two city teens are being charged in connection with the theft of a cell phone and assault of a military veteran.

The charges stem from an assault that occurred early in the morning on August 11 in the 100 block of Moore Avenue NW during which a gray Verizon flip phone was taken.

The incident was reported to police by an employee of Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital where a 70-year-old city resident was being treated for injuries sustained during the attack.

Detectives posted on Facebook Saturday that they were seeking the owner of a red-and-black Zippo bandana that had been recovered from the scene of the attack.

New Philadelphia Police Detective Chaz Willet says two unrelated male suspects, ages 15 and 17, were taken into custody on Monday after the mother of one of the juveniles recognized the bandana as belonging to her son.

Willet says the two juveniles, both from New Philadelphia, are each being charged with one count of robbery and one count of breaking and entering.
