New Phila schools staff members honored

NEW PHILADELPHIA - The New Philadelphia Board of Education is recognizing some employees for their contributions to the city schools.

The board held their 23rd Annual Staff Recognition Banquet on May 15th and named high school science teacher Carla Pry as the 2019 Charlyn Menapace Educator of the Year.

Pry is in her 25th year at New Philadelphia High School where she teaches Biology, Anatomy and Physiology and Genetics. She has been the Head Volleyball Coach for 20 years and is the co-Science Department head and the Freshmen, Sophomore and Junior class advisor.  She has served on the Ohio High School Volleyball Coaches Association Board for the last six years, representing District 5 volleyball coaches at the state level.

Pry is a former recipient of the Dr. William J. and Mae Hurst Jackson Award for Distinguished Teaching through the Quaker Foundation. She says her passion is teaching and being around students and that there is no other job she would rather be doing than teaching at the school.

Also during the banquet, ESL Interpreter Inez Rodriguez was honored as the 2019 Charlyn Menapace Support Staff Employee of the Year.
