NEW PHILADELPHIA (WJER) - A New Philadelphia man is joining libraries across the nation with their mission of spreading information to get an accurate census count next year.

Tom Adamich is part of Ohio’s Complete Count Committee to monitor census activity and encourage participation. Adamich says the 2020 Census will feature an online option for the first time.

“It’s all secured and authenticated and you receive in the mail a computer code that will allow you then to participate. It’s the most cost-effective way for the census to receive data,” he says.

Adamich says the government is about to start hiring census workers, possibly filling about 1,000 part-time jobs in the county, paying about $15 an hour.

“As an enumerator, which is where you identify addresses and you work with some data spreadsheets to understand where some locations are, or as those census workers who actually go out to visit homes and talk with people,” he says.

Adamich says people can apply and learn more online at census.gov
