New Philadelphia, Ohio - A former Garaway guidance counselor accused of returning textbooks from the district's College Credit Plus program and pocketing the refund has been ordered into a diversion program.

Forty-five-year-old Felix Calzada entered a conditional guilty plea Tuesday to one count of theft in office, a fifth-degree felony. Judge Elizabeth Thomakos handed down the order placing Calzada into a diversion program through Community Corrections. She also ordered him to pay just under a thousand dollars in restitution to the school district.

If Calzada successfully completes the program, his guilty plea will be vacated and the charge will be dismissed. If he fails to do so, he could face 6 to 12 months in prison term and a fine of up to $2,500.
