NEW PHILADELPHIA (Tusco TV) - Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition officials are celebrating a year of advances in the local fight against addiction, and they’re hoping to keep the momentum going with an event tonight at the Quaker Cinema.

Coordinator Jodi Salvo says they’ll be screening two short, inspirational films starting at 6:30 pm as part of the free “Hope Rising” community awareness event. Salvo says one challenges residents to become part of the solution, and the other features a local woman who overcame addiction sharing her success story.

"You’re gonna see someone that has struggled through addiction and she is now living life in recovery and all the people that played a role in getting her where she’s at right now," she says.

Salvo says the Hope Rising event also includes several guest speakers, a panel discussion, and an information fair to showcase the resources available in the local community.

"So when you walk in, we will have the opportunity to secure naloxone to reverse overdoses. There will be the opportunity to receive drug-deactivation bags to get unwanted medications out of our community. There will be resources on treatment options here in the county," she says.

Doors open at 6 pm for live music and pre-event refreshments.
