By Mitch Spinell

DOVER, Ohio - Dover City Schools have announced Karie McCrate as the new superintendent, starting August 1, 2021.

McCrate will succeed Superintendent Carla Birney, who announced her retirement earlier this year.

“The Board is excited for Karie to be the next leader of Dover City Schools. She really stood out among all the candidates,” said Elizabeth Lauber, board president.  “Her strong ties to the community and her vast experience over her 20+ year career make her the ideal person to lead Dover into the next era of educational success.”

Entering her 23rd year within Dover City Schools, McCrate started her career in 1999 as a Language Arts teacher before serving as assistant principal, and later principal, of Dover High School for 11 years. McCrate also served as principal of East Elementary School before being named assistant superintendent in 2015.

McCrate, who resides in Dover with her husband Tim and four children who are all students at Dover City Schools, received her undergraduate degree in English/Professional Writing from Capital University, as well as a Master's in English Education at The Ohio State University, and a Master's in Educational Administration from Ashland University.
