DOVER (WJER) - Some of the finest marching bands around will be at Crater Stadium Saturday night for the 48th-annual Dover Band Preview.

Dover Band Director Chris Redd says there will be eight bands in all, including the Ohio’s Pride marching band from the University of Akron, which features several members who went to Dover.

“The University of Akron’s Ohio Pride, which has over 260 members, that’s gonna be a great close to our show, and I do want to plug you’ll want to stay for the entire show. I won’t tell you exactly why but there will be a big finish at the end,” he says.

Redd says the Dover kids have mastered the show by this point.

“We put music in the kids’ hands in June, so about June 1st they’re reading music for the following season, and that way they can practice over the summer, and then we start band camp three weeks before school starts and the students are putting in hours work,” he says.

The Dover Band Preview show begins at 7 pm with the Parade of Bands. Redd says bands are coming in from as far as Steubenville and Canton McKinley. Tickets are $7 at the gate. admission is free for kids under five and seniors over 65.
