Tuscarawas County, Ohio (WJER) - Tuscarawas County Democrats are on the lookout for some Board of Elections candidates.

Executive Committee member Martha Campbell says they need someone to replace Doug O’Meara on the four-member Tuscarawas County Board of Elections. O’Meara has been serving the remainder of an unexpired term and opted not to run again.

Campbell says the committee will meet February 12th to hear from the candidates and choose someone that night, though the Ohio Secretary of State will have the final say.

“Whoever is selected, they’ll have to fill out some paperwork that’s already been established by the Secretary of State’s office. They’ll have to return that as well as a resume to the Secretary of State’s office,” she says.

Campbell says candidates should be committed to ensuring that the elections are accessible for those who live here and are eligible to vote.

“It is a paid position, but there is also a lot of information that you will go through dealing with elections and issues that come up to specific candidates or positions that are available,” she says. “It is time-consuming.”

Campbell says the ideal candidate would be someone already somewhat familiar with what goes on at the board and can attend the board meetings, which happen at least twice a month.
