DOVER - Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital has received the highest possible rating from the federal government in the most recent “Hospital Compare” report.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has released its hospital quality ratings for 2020 and Union Hospital received a 5-star rating, the highest possible rating issued in the rankings system.

“With less than 10 percent of the hospitals --only 407 total-- around the United States rated as a 5-star hospital, it is very gratifying for Union Hospital to be included in this select company,” says Bruce James, President and CEO of Union Hospital. “It is a tribute to our caregivers at the hospital who are dedicated to providing the very best care for our patients day in and day out. Their diligent focus on patient care as their top priority is evident, along with a desire to constantly improve.”

The CMS Hospital Compare rating summarizes a variety of measures across seven areas of quality of care into a single star rating for each hospital. These seven measures are: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care, and efficient use of medical imaging.

More than 4,500 hospitals around the country are included in the Hospital Compare data and ratings.
