CAMBRIDGE (Tusco TV) - State troopers are investigating a single-car crash in that killed a 12-year-old and injured three others.

According to a news release from the Cambridge Post, the crash happened just before 8 pm Friday when 34-year-old Joseph Borland of Newcomerstown drove his pickup truck off the left side of Science Hill Road in Wheeling Township and struck a utility pole, which caused the truck to overturn, ejecting the Borland and his three juvenile passengers.

Borland and one of the passengers were life-flighted to a Columbus area hospital. The other two were transported to Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center in Cambridge where the 12-year-old passenger was pronounced deceased.

The post’s preliminary investigation determined that seatbelts were not in use at the time of the accident. Alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor. Dispatchers say the names of the juveniles are being withheld pending further investigation.
