NEW PHILADELPHIA – Buckeye Career Center is seeking assistance from local businesses and residents to help defray the cost of its drug-free student initiative for the 2019-2020 school year.

This is BCC’s second year participating in Drug Free Clubs of America, a nationwide program that began in Cincinnati in 2005. BCC had 200 students participate last school year. The goal of the program is to promote healthy living and a drug-free lifestyle for teenagers.

Buckeye Career Center also believes the initiative is helpful to employers who are seeking drug-free potential employees. Students who apply to be involved in the chapter are drug tested and given an ID card to keep in his or her possession. The students are randomly tested throughout the year in order to keep an active membership and to receive rewards such as five-minute early release from school, access to the Joe Carlisle Café & Marketplace, coupons/discounts at local restaurants, cookouts, and more.

Buckeye Career Center is seeking support in the form of monetary donations or incentives. The financial contributions help pay for the student membership fees, testing supplies, and rewards for students. Local businesses can also participate in the Drug Free Club discount card that works like the fundraiser cards sold by area sports teams each summer. Supporters will be recognized on a banner that hangs in the BCC cafeteria.
