SUGARCREEK (Tusco TV) - The Age of Steam Roundhouse is marking the 75th anniversary of the D-Day invasion with a showcase of the military technology that helped propel the US and its allies to victory abroad.

Executive Director Noel Poirier says they’re partnering with WWII re-enactment groups and military vehicle collectors for a two-day event called Steam to Victory happening at the museum this Friday and Saturday.

“What we’re going to have on site that day on Friday and Saturday, both days, are a nice collection of military vehicles for folks to check out, a tank and some half-tracks and various other military vehicles. We’re gonna have some re-enactment camps, both Allied and Axis units from the war. We’ll have some food vendors will be here in case people get hungry,” he says.

Poirier says they won’t be offering regular tours during the event but they will be unveiling a few WWII-era pieces from the museum’s collection.

“We’re also unveiling at the event our cosmetically-restored US Army locomotive that we’ve spent this year restoring, so that’ll be unveiled at the event for people to be able to see and get their pictures taken with it and get close to it. We’re also gonna unveil a couple of other vehicles from our collection that are related to WWII era including a couple of passenger cars that we’ve restored,” he says.

Poirier says this will be the first large-scale event the museum has hosted since it opened its doors back in May. He says their goal is to highlight the role steam technology played in the war effort while attracting some new visitors.

“The folks who are familiar with what we have here are always going to be wanting to come see us. We wanted to kind of show folks that there are other stories we tell with steam and with steam history that allow us to open the doors to folks who might not otherwise come,” he says.

The Steam to Victory event runs from 9 am to 5 pm both days. Admission is $7 for adults and free for active-duty military members and veterans.
