DOVER (WJER) - Festival season is here with the 38th annual Canal Dover Festival starting up today.

The festival begins with the midway opening at noon and then the opening ceremonies with Mayor Rick Homrighausen at 5:30 pm, followed by entertainment and live music. Entertainment Chair Alan Page says the fun continues Saturday, with the parade kicking things off at noon.

“Then we go into a lot of the Community Showcase for the kids with the Dover band after our plate auction and then the local dance studios followed up by Jericho Big Band, which is a recent addition in the last couple of years to the schedule,” he says.

Exchange Club President Kevin Korns says the festival is constantly evolving.

“We always keep the crowd favorites on both entertainment and we try to with food but with any festival or any fair things always change. Vendors come and go, we get some new but we try to keep the core base things, the rides, good entertainment," he says.

The festival closes out with New Wave Nation playing from 8 to 11 pm Sunday night on the Walnut Street stage.
