New Philadelphia, Ohio - The halls of the Tuscarawas County YMCA are decked out for the holidays, and its decorations are up for sale to the highest bidder.

Marketing Director Kathleen Johnson says the Y’s 12th annual Silent Wreath Auction is open for bidding and features a selection of 26 beautifully-decorated wreaths donated by supporters.

“Staff members and patrons actually donate those wreaths. Some of them are bought and purchased, and we’re putting them up for auction. Some of them are actually handmade or crafted by the individual who donated them,” she says.

Johnson says people have until noon on November 21st to stop by the Y and check out the selection that includes several sports-themed wreaths and an authentic Thomas Kinkade illuminated snowman wreath.

“They’re all displayed in our lobby area, and they’re all numbered. We showcased those on social media, and then people can come down and there’s a little binder at the front desk and they can write in their bids,” she says. “Then, the final gavel will go down at noon on the 21st, and whoever has that last bid on there will win that wreath, and then they’ll be available for pickup.”

Proceeds from the auction will go toward the organization’s annual campaign and be used to help low-income children and families become Y members. Johnson says she’s eager to see which one of this year’s wreaths brings in the most money for the cause.

“I think this year, we have such a great selection that it’ll be interesting to see which wreath is the one that people hone in on and brings the most money,” she says.
