UHRICHSVILLE - The city’s mayor is giving an update on an ongoing street improvement project that’s fallen slightly behind due to the rainy weather.

The Twin City Water Department & Sewer District has had Eastport Avenue torn since early spring up as crews work to replace 2,1000 feet of underground water lines and just over a thousand feet of sewer lines. Mayor Rick Dorland says that portion of the project now is running behind schedule, but he says that won’t make a huge difference in the overall timeline.

“The weather has been kind of hampering them but they’re close to getting done and then our phase is set to take off July 15th because between now and then Dominion Energy has to go in and replace their gas lines and that’s going to take 30, 35 days. Plus, we have to have some funding paperwork signed before we can put a shovel in the ground,” he says.

Dorland says they expect the work will carry over into next spring, so people are going to have to deal with the torn up road for quite a while still.

“The projected completion date is May of 2020, so it’ll still be a mess but it’ll be maintained the entire time. If there’s any potholes that form, the contractor’s gonna come in and fill ‘em up but it’s gonna be a tore up mess until it’s completed,” he says.

Shelly & Sands will be handling the resurfacing portion of the project, which also includes the installation of new sidewalks and curbs.
