New Philadelphia, Ohio (WJER) - The Tuscarawas County Board Of Elections will have extended hours on Monday, April 8th, to help potential voters beat the deadline to register to vote in the May primary election.

Board Of Elections Director Allan Sayre says the office at the courthouse in New Philadelphia will be open from 8 am to 9 pm on April 8th, which is the deadline for voters to register for the May 7th election. He says residents can contact the board of elections to make sure they are registered.

“Well, they can always call us, or they can go online to our board of elections site or the Secretary of State’s site to see if they are registered and see the information that we have regarding under what name and the addresses that we have that they’re registered at and where their polling location is,” he says.

Sayre says voters can also register online or by mail before the April 8th deadline. He says residents won’t notice much of a difference at the polls this year.

“We have the same equipment that we’ve had since November of 2017, so everybody should be getting used to the different equipment, the electronic poll books as well as the high-speed scanners and things of that sort,” he says.

Sayre says early absentee voting starts Tuesday, April 9th, at the courthouse in New Philadelphia on the North Broadway side. Hours are 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday until May 3rd. The board will have special hours for early voting on the Saturday, Sunday and Monday before the May 7th election.
