CLEVELAND (WJER) - Anyone who has served in the armed forces looking for work is being invited to a special event in Cleveland to meet with employers focusing on their unique skills.

The groups Recruit Military and Disabled American Veterans are putting on a Veterans Job Fair from 11 to 3 pm Thursday at First Energy Stadium. Event Director Samantha Duncan says they are set to have about 50 exhibitors or so.

“We host about 140 events nationwide to give them some face-to-face interaction with employers that are specifically looking to hire veterans so it’s an amazing way to get them to network, and we provide them some advice,” she says.

Duncan says they recommend people before going should take a moment to practice your 30-second elevator pitch. You should make eye contact and confidently greet each recruiter with a smile and firm handshake. And know what to wear…

“Definitely dress for success, and we always recommend that you bring some resumes with you. Even if they’re not 100 percent perfect, we do tell you to bring a resume so that way they can get a glance over on your background. At least 10 copies is usually what we recommend. Come in with a smile and be ready to network.”

Duncan says the latest list of participating companies and more can be found online at success.recruitmillitary.com
