Washington, DC (WJER) - Tuscarawas County’s congressmen are speaking out about the house resolution against President Trump’s emergency declaration at the southern border.

Republican 6th district Congressman Bill Johnson issued a statement calling this sudden and fabricated outrage by Democrats, while 7th district Congressman Bob Gibbs says the resolution of disapproval is simply political theater.

Meanwhile, Democrat Sherrod Brown says he believes the resolution also has a chance of passing in the Republican-controlled Senate.

“Congress has rejected him at least twice on this,” he says. “In the Senate past, these emergency declarations have been not done after Congress refusing the money on something, and he hasn’t established that there’s an emergency.”

The House vote Tuesday still fell well short of the two-thirds majority that would be needed to override a veto by the president.
