UHRICHSVILLE (WJER) - Uhrichsville City Council has two openings to fill in early 2020.

The Democratic Central Committee will be selecting someone to serve the remaining two years on the term of former Council President Mark Haney, now that he’s mayor. Committee Chair Martha Campbell says she’s asking for interested candidates to contact her and attend a selection meeting Wednesday, January 8th at 6 pm at Uhrichsville Council Chambers.

“We will be selecting somebody at that particular meeting. Basically according to the Ohio Revised Code, when you have a resignation for an office like this, you have between 5 and 15 days to fill that position,” she says.

Campbell says they could end up selecting one of the current at-large or ward council members to take over as council president.

“That is a great possibility, and if that happens and if those people happen to be Democrat party members, then that puts us in the same position to then have to be in a position to re-fill their seats as well,” she says.

Meanwhile, Uhrichsville Council is also accepting applications for the open Ward 1 seat at the mayor’s office through January 22nd, since no one ran for that race in last year’s elections.
