A new addition to a local fire department will essentially ease the burden of a lot of overtime pay and not having enough manpower. Curtis McGarry recently passed his National Registry, becoming the newest paramedic to the Uhrichsville department. Fire Chief Justin Edwards says that this brings the full-time staff up to seven and then 15 volunteers. “We feel that this extra person will allow me to be here during the day which will bring our daytime staffing up. Our firemen work 24 hours on, 48 hours off.” By adding firefighters it helps to bring down the overtime hours per week and lessens staff from getting burnout and will help the unit get out to community events. Edwards notes that he is grateful for the city’s support and looks forward to what the future holds.
