New Philadelphia, Ohio - The Tuscarawas County Community Foundation has awarded more than $348,000 in grants this year to more than 30 area nonprofit organizations and governmental entities in an effort to improve the quality of life for area residents.  

Of those grant awards, 16 of were made from the foundation’s general fund, 13 were provided by the Max T. and Erma Miller Donor Advised Fund, and three were made by the AAA Tuscarawas County Donor Advised Fund.

The 16 foundation grants, which totaled $93,008, are as follows:  

  • Project Lead the Way (Buckeye Career Center, Claymont, Dover, Indian Valley, New Philadelphia, and Tuscarawas Valley School Districts) $1,000 each
  • Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts, $25,000 for facilities
  • Kent State University Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center, $5,000 in support of the Broadway Series
  • Dover City Schools, $3,512 for new traveling risers for the elementary schools
  • Tuscarawas County Agricultural Society, $5,000 for an Agricultural Leadership Legacy in Tuscarawas County “Old McDonald’s Farm”
  • Newcomerstown Emergency Rescue Service, $11,300 for the purchase of two infusion pumps
  • Tuscarawas County General Health District, $3,900 for lobby renovations
  • Friends of the Homeless, $5,000 for shelter bathroom renovations
  • Little Theater of Tuscarawas County, $3,875 for a wardrobe room addition
  • Kent State Tuscarawas Performing Arts Center, $4,000 to advance arts education by bringing in artists to interact with local students
  • Personal & Family Counseling Services, $5,421 for waiting room renovations
  • TCCF Leadership Scholarships, $16,000 to provide scholarships to deserving area students.  

The 13 grants from the Max T. and Erma Miller Donor-Advised Fund totaled $245,000 and were presented to the following agencies:

  • Trumpet in the Land, $25,000; Rainbow Connection, $10,000
  • Dress-A-Child, $25,000
  • Community Hospice, $10,000
  • New Philadelphia High School Quaker Foundation, $10,000
  • RTY Park Place Teen Center, $55,000
  • Buckeye Career Center Foundation, $10,000
  • Tuscarawas County Council for Church and Community, $10,000
  • Tuscarawas County Center for the Arts, $25,000
  • Grace Lutheran Church of Dover, $25,000
  • United Way of Tuscarawas County, $25,000
  • Salvation Army, $5,000
  • Tuscarawas County Historical Society, $10,000. 

Three community grants were provided by the AAA Tuscarawas County Donor Advised Fund. They are as follows:  

  • Kent State University Tuscarawas, $5,000 for a Paramedic to Associate Degree in Nursing program
  • Tuscarawas County Safe Kids Coalition, $3,500 for a Teen Driving Roadeo project
  • Tuscarawas County Soap Box Derby, $1,500 for derby activities.  

The Tuscarawas County Community Foundation was established in 2001 as a community endowment fund.
