Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition reminding to discard unwanted, unused prescriptions before holidays

NEW PHILADELPHIA, Ohio - The Tuscarawas County Anti-Drug Coalition is reminding local residents to discard unwanted and unused prescription medications before this holiday season.

"Safe use, safe storage, and safe disposal are three important points to remember with all medicines, even over-the-counter ones." Jeff Neidig, pharmacist and chairperson of the ADC Prescription Drug Committee reminds us. "Adults, parents, and grandparents should properly store and dispose of all medications so they do not get into the wrong hands or are not used incorrectly."

County residents have a number of options to safely dispose of unused medications. They can contact the TCADC at (330) 440-7320 and receive a free Deterra Drug Disposal pouch for small amounts of medications.

The pouches can be dropped off at one of six permanent drop box disposal stations located throughout Tuscarawas County, or at a national drug takeback event held every April and October.
