New Philadelphia, Ohio (WJER) - Tuscarawas Central Catholic school officials say the kids still managed to learn some things during their holiday break.

TCC Elementary and Immaculate Conception Principal Matt Ritzert says all three schools, including the Junior and Senior High School, were involved with community service projects to help Share-A-Christmas and other causes.

“At the elementary schools, we have service teams that go out and help out at the food pantries, do food and toy collections, rake leaves, get involved in a variety of pride projects,” he says.

Ritzert says giving back is very important to what they do at Tuscarawas Central Catholic.

“We believe we are called to serve by God, and at Central Catholic Junior-Senior High School there is a service requirement as part of the graduation requirements,” he says.

Ritzert says some other examples include the Immaculate Conception students helping pack cookies for the Polar Express train rides as well as making nursing home visits during their time away from the classrooms.
