DOVER (WJER) - Kids can climb aboard an ambulance, firetruck, cement mixer, and other big rigs at the Dover Library’s Touch-a-Truck event Saturday.

Library Youth Services Manager Claire Kandle says families can learn about community service vehicles in front of the library on Walnut Street from 10 am to 1 pm.

“It’s very popular. We usually get a couple hundred people walking through, and the street gets pretty crowded at times so it’s really good to see everybody out and enjoying this and learning that kids can learn what these community vehicles are for and what they do,” she says.

She says the friends of the library will hand out free hot dogs and lemonade while visitors explore the trucks.

“They kind of take that off our plate, so to speak, and add an extra benefit to the crowd, to everybody coming to enjoy the event, and they just do that on their own and I really appreciate it,” she says.

While Touch-a-Truck is going on outside, author and railroad executive Michael Connor will be inside from 10 to 11 to talk about railroads in Tuscarawas County. People can call the Dover Library at 330-343-6123 to register for the author’s presentation.
