DOVER (Tusco TV) - The agricultural fun continues at the Tuscarawas County fairgrounds with a new clothing-making demonstration, a local marching band show, and discounted admission for safety forces members.

Today is Safety Forces Discount Day with admission for police, EMTs, and firefighters discounted to $1. Fair board Vice-President Steve Cronebaugh says it’s a way to recognize the people who work hard to protect the community.

“You see a lot of volunteer firefighters that come out and help provide fire protection. You’ve got the officers and everybody that supports the county and protects our county, and it’s another way to thank them and give them a chance to come out and enjoy the fair with their family,” he says.

Tuesday highlights include the WJER Band-O-Rama from 6 to 9 pm featuring seven area high school bands and their marching musicians. Event Chair Doug Wills says the event returned last year after a lengthy hiatus.

“It was a very easy decision to try to bring the Band-O-Rama back. I can tell you we were thrilled last year to see the number of bands come back and keep our money in-house and pay them to entertain.

There will also be a new Sheep to Shawl demonstration happening throughout the day. Fine Arts Chair Jacque Peters says it’s to show fairgoers how wool is harvested and turned into clothing.

“They’re going to bring a sheep in. They’re going to do the process from the shearing to the cleaning to the combing to spinning it and showing how the wool is processed all the way through into the final product,” she says.

Junior Fair livestock events include market hog and dressage shows starting at 9 am and a Market & Dairy Goat Showmanship event at 6 pm. There’s also a Guys & Gals Lead Class at 5 pm in the main show arena followed by an Open Class Dairy Show at 7.
