Harrison County, Ohio - The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a Saturday afternoon crash near Freeport that claimed the lives of Tippecanoe couple.

Sgt. Shawn Yoho of the Steubenville Post says the accident occurred on state Route 342 at approximately 12:20 p.m. on August 25 after a westbound Chevy Silverado being driven by a 73-year-old Piedmont woman drove off the right-hand side of the road while navigating a curve. The driver then overcorrected and went left of center, striking two eastbound Harley-Davidson motorcycles that were taking part in a poker run.

The occupants of one of the motorcycles, husband and wife Michael J. and Guyla Ferguson of Tippecanoe, were pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the other motorcycle were transported by helicopter to Akron General Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the truck was transported by ambulance to Trinity Hospital Twin City and was later transferred to Aultman Hospital. There were no passengers in the vehicle.

Sgt. Yoho says the crash remains under investigation but notes that drugs, alcohol and speed have all been ruled out as factors. He says once the investigation has been completed, the report will be reviewed by the Harrison County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges against the driver of the truck.
